چکیده
This paper uses game theory concepts to interpret the history of the Delta conflict, why the CALFED framework failed in making major strategic decisions, and prospects for the future. Game theory is the mathematical study of self-interested competitive and cooperative moves and countermoves for problems with more than one decision-maker. It often usefully describes the interactions of stakeholders whose individual behaviors result in worse conditions for all parties, despite a common interest in reaching a potential win-win solution (von Neumann and Morgenstern 1944; Myerson 1997; Camerer 2003; Madani 2010). Game theory has been applied to a variety of water and environmental resources problems in the past (Dinar et al. 1986; 1992; Dinar and Howitt 1997; Hipel et al. 1997; Carraro et al. 2005; Parrachino et al. 2006; Zara et al. 2006; Madani 2009; 2010; Hipel and Walker 2010). The mathematical study of stakeholder moves and countermoves within a simplified conceptual model of the Delta conflict highlights reasons for the failure of recent state and federal consensus policies for the Delta: “to encourage the main parties – agricultural and urban water diverters, and fisheries and other instreamprotection interests – to work out a solution among themselves, rather than imposing one externally” (Hanemann and Dyckman, 2009). Parties to the Delta conflict are generally selfoptimizers, as opposed to global-optimizers, giving priority to their own objectives rather than broader state or national objectives, resulting in failure of strategic governance which relies primarily on cooperation.

Assessing Heavy Metals Pollution of the Mangrove Sediments along Tidal Flat of the Mehran River Delta, Persian Gulf
The relationship between the concentration of heavy metals and physicochemical factors was studied in the fine-grained sediments of the tidal section of the Mehran delta where mangrove trees have grown. Surface sediments of the tidal zone of the Mehran delta were sampled. The grain size distribution, calcium carbonate, organic matter contents, pH/Eh, and heavy metals concentration were determin...

متن کاملSentinel lymph node biopsy correctly predicts regional lymph node recurrence in trunk malignant melanoma with multiple drainage basins
We report a young male with an initial excisional biopsy report of melanoma of the lower back, referred to our hospital for complete excision and sentinel lymph node (SLN) biopsy. Four peritumoral intradermal Tc-99m phytate injection was performed and SLNs were detected in both axillary and right inguinal regions. On the biopsy only the right axillary SLN was metastatic leading to right axilla...
متن کاملAn Efficient Algorithm for Workspace Generation of Delta Robot
Dimensional synthesis of a parallel robot may be the initial stage of its design process, which is usually carried out based on a required workspace. Since optimization of the links lengths of the robot for the workspace is usually done, the workspace computation process must be run numerous times. Hence, importance of the efficiency of the algorithm and the CPU time of the workspace computatio...
متن کاملEvaluation of Field Performance of Steady State Drainage Equations for Sugarcane Agro-Industrial Company in Khuzestan
Selection of drainage equation with acceptable accuracy has always been a challenge for designers to design subsurface drainage systems. In this research, seven steady state drainage equations were used for predicting daily and cumulative drainage rate on a farmland of sugarcane in Imam agro-industrial Company. These drainage equation included Hooghoudt, Ernst, Kirkham and Dagan that have been ...
